17/02/06: Further step towards liberalised services The European Parliament has voted in support defense of a much-amended Services Directive. The latest draft has removed the controversial 'country of origin' principle, which means that all companies providing services across EU defense borders will have to comply with labour laws and applicable collective agreements in the host state. Despite the many amendments, however, the Directive will boost cross-border defense service provision if it goes ahead in its present form. Governments will no longer be able to impose certain controls on providers based in other member states, such as the requirement to establish a local representative office, register with a trade body, or make capital deposits into a local bank account before trading can commence.The
